the strength of the Sarah Palin brand

I don't like Rush Limbaugh. I don't like Sarah Palin.
That said: I think that reasons that Limbaugh (and others) admire Palin are worth paying attention to. Just the other day, a left-leaning family member was asking me...why do people like Sarah Palin..why are we still talking about her.... not as a rhetorical question, but because she (unlike many on the left) was honestly interested in understanding where other people (many in our own family) were coming from.

John Tantillo has a marketing and branding blog and has done quite a few posts about personal political brands, among them, the Sarah Palin brand. It's obvious from his posts that Tantillo leans left. Regardless of where you stand politically though (or especially if you're on the left and also grasping to understand what anyone could possibly see in Palin..) - I think it's helpful to look at the question of "Why Palin" through a "branding lens," as Tantillo says.

There's an old post from September 2008, just after her convention speech , where he discusses
Palin's rapid definition of her brand, and her use of pull marketing.

And a slightly more recent post in which he attempts to defend/explain Palin's resignation from office: "With this decision and this announcement, Sarah Palin has been absolutely true to herself. Long-term, this will translate to a success that will leave most political pundits in the dust."

To defeat the opposition (or to reach a broader target market, in branding terms), you first have to understand them and what they want.

Rush is a Peddler of Divisiveness

Rush Limbaugh is an extreme right wing ideologue and demagogue who peddles hate mongering and fear mongering. If he thinks Palin should be President then that is the last thing any moderate and clear thinking citizen of the U. S. should want. A recent poll shows Palin has a very high negative rating and most do not want her anywhere near the White House. Why? Because she is another right wing extremist and, just like Limbaugh, a peddler of distortion and disinformation.

    The Spoiler

All that Sarah Palin knows is the spot light. She does not care about anyone else but her self. She is a quitter that can't stand the heat and how does that make her qualified to be president.

Actually Sarah Palin is the spoiler that can brake up the GOP. With her ultraconservative stand (backed by Rush) she is creating an opportunity to run as a leader of a new conservative party that will eventually break up the GOP and create for the first time a three party system in the US.

I would not be surprised to see a Conservative Palin/Limbaugh ticket for the 2012 elections if the GOP will not surrender to Palins demands that she will come up with soon. It is either her way or the highway.

As for Limbaugh, he is an opportunist as they can't be described any better in any encyclopedia. This is his big opportunity to get onto a political stage without having to pay for it, hoping that the American public is so blinded and dumb that they will support anything he can imagine.

The GOP should get back to it's roots or they will become a part of history. The biggest fight right now for the GOP is not against the Democrats but withing their own ranks and to name it directly it is Palin & Limbaugh. They are the ones that are destroying the GOP!
