Rush Limbaugh Mocks Japanese Refugees

| by Mark Berman Opposing Views

Rush Limbaugh is mocking survivors of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami for setting up a recycling program in their refugee camp.

According to a report in The Huffington Post, a caller to his radio show on Tuesday asked Limbaugh, "If these are the people that invented the Prius, have mastered public transportation, recycling, why did Mother Earth, Gaia (the Greek version of Mother Nature) if you will, hit them with this disaster?"

Limbaugh called this an "interesting question," and proceeded to play a clip of ABC's Diane Sawyer reporting from a shelter in Japan. Sawyer seemed to take great delight in the fact that the shelter has a recycling program.

After first mocking Sawyer, saying she sounded like "a kindergarten teacher talking to the four-year-olds," Limbaugh returned to the original question.

"He's right," Limbaugh said. "The Japanese have done so much to save the planet. They've given us the Prius. Even now, refugees are still recycling their garbage. And yet, Gaia levels them! Just wipes them out!" Wipes out their nuclear plants, all kinds of radiation, what kind of payback is this?"

Limbaugh then pointed out that the tsunami hit the area where electric cars were being built, and he asked "What is the mother of environmentalism trying to say with this hit?"
