Roethlisberger and Steelers Have Been Working Out

During the seemingly endless lockout, news abounded about various NFL teams organizing workouts here and there, and about various players being ejected from neighborhood high-school football fields where they attempted to get in some much needed practice. There was little to no word about the Steelers doing anything of that sort though. According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette however, Roethlisberger and co have worked out as well, although they kept a low profile about it. The Steelers QB told the Gazette that the entire offense had worked out, including the running backs, the linemen and the tight ends.

Roethlisberger also said that he and his teammates weren’t particularly keen on letting the press know about their every move. As long as they did it, they were fine with it. In the same interview, Roethlisberger expressed sympathy with the rookies who would come into the league only to see their first season crippled by the lockout. What the lockout means for these players, especially for those who went undrafted, is that they’ll be thrown into the middle of the fray as soon as they show up for the first day of training camp. The Steelers are in a good position in this respect, because they’re not short handed at any of the starting positions, so they’re not dependant on such new and potentially disoriented talent.

Emmanuel Sanders, the WR who has recently had surgery on both his feet has also attended the Steelers workouts. He says he hopes to be up to full speed in two weeks and 100% by the time training camp kicks off. According to Sanders, Roethlisberger was the one personally responsible for the Steelers workouts, of which there have been 3 so far. Roethlisberger sent out group text messages to teammates regarding the workout dates.
