College Basketball: Rodney Purvis Decommits From Louisville

| by

In a move we were seemingly waiting to occur since Tim Fuller’s departure, 2012′s top guard Rodney Purvis has decommitted from Louisville and will restart his recruitment.

The Cards secured his commitment largely because of his connection to Fuller and once Fuller headed to Missouri, it was expected Purvis would jump ship as well. He finally did on Monday. Rodney claims he will still consider Louisville and in fact, said on his Twitter account the Cards are still no. 1 on his list and he just wants to develop a relationship with the new staff. However, I do not expect him to recommit and most of the chatter indicates the coaching staff is moving on from him.

The Cards will now have to start over with their 2012 recruiting class. Negus Webster-Chan, a top 50 prospect, decommitted from Louisville as a result of the coaching shuffle, but that was a mutual parting. UofL’s new staff will have to hit the ground running and really get after it on the recruiting trail to land a top class.

In terms of replacements for Purvis in the 2012 class, the two big names Cardinal fans should watch out for are five-star combo guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and NC State transfer Ryan Harrow, previously a five-star prospect himself. I’ll profile both of them as the week progresses.
