Rock Promoter Don Kirshner Dies At 76

Songwriter and rock promoter Don Kirshner has died at 76 of heart failure.

Don Kirshner, who was called the “Man With the Golden Ear” died Monday at a Boca Raton hospital where he was being treated for an infection.  Kirshner was 76.

Kirshner was a songwriter and rock promoter who later worked in publishing and television.

Kirshner helped the careers of musicians such as Carole King, Neil Sedaka, Howard Greenfield, Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann.  He also created the music for “The Monkees” television show.

In the 70′s Don created and later hosted a weekly live music show called “Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert”, which showcased bands such as Pink Floyd, Kiss and The Ramones.

Kirshner was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2007.

He is survived by his wife Sheila of 50 years and children Ricky and Daryn.
