A church pastor accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl was sentenced to 60 hours of community service, a $500 fine and a month-long nighttime curfew, avoiding a jail sentence altogether.
Christopher Rose, a 45-year-old pastor at the Living Water World Outreach Ministry, faced accusations in the UK's Aylesbury Crown Court.
The incident in question occurred when Rose reportedly bit the young girl’s ear in a sexually suggestive manner, causing trauma that has subsequently led her to harm herself on multiple occasions. According to the Daily Mail, Rose had acted as a mentor for the girl’s parents, and they had trusted him to be alone with their daughter prior to the incident occurring.
Judge Sheridan, who issued Rose his sentence, explained that the man would be able to retain his position as a pastor.
“He was trusted in the family setting and then misused that position in relation to the daughter. I’m not going to stop him working as a pastor but I think my duty is to protect other young girls of that age from over-familiar treatment,” Judge Sheridan said, according to the Inquistr.
The abuse was considered an “isolated incident” by the court, which assessed Rose as at low risk of re-offending. In addition to his punishments, Rose was also forced to sign the UK’s Sex Offenders’ Register.
