Pop singer and actress Selena Gomez expressed her mixed feelings about religion and faith on June 9 (video below).
Radio host Zach Sang asked Gomez about "religion," and she delivered a thoughtful and conflicted answer, reported Yahoo! Celebrity:
It’s hard because I don’t know if it’s necessarily that I believe in religion as much as I believe in faith and a relationship with God. I’ve never ... been the person that’s like, "This is what it should be."
I’ve just experienced things in my life where there are holes in things that nothing else can fill, and I know that if I didn’t have the faith that I had it wouldn't have gotten me through some of the hardest times in my life. And I stand by that. I think there's just a lot I wouldn't have been able to do. So I think it's not really... that word freaks me out sometimes, you know.

Sang recalled that he grew up going to Catholic schools, was not necessarily religious, but does believe in God.
"It’s tricky," Gomez added. "I’ve never been one to pressure anyone, you know, it’s kind of something that anyone has the right to figure out for themselves."
Gomez recently told "Elvis Duran and the Morning Show" radio program about her faith and going to the Hillsong Church in New York City, noted Charisma News:
I haven't really been all over the place lately and that's kind of intentional. I think it's important to balance out where I am, and I've been doing this for a really long time, and my sanity has meant everything to me, and a lot of that is my faith.

I took 90 days off, I went away, I was very vocal about it because to me, where I get my confidence is my vulnerability. I can't sit there and pretend that everything is good because I've done that for years, and it doesn't really work for me. I have such a heart for people... I wish I could save everyone.
Duran told Gomez: "I've been texting with [Hillsong Pastor] Carl Lentz. I'll tell him that we hung out, and you seem very well-tuned after your weekend with him."
"I feel very refreshed," Gomez stated. "He's the best."
"What just happened here? I feel good about my life," Duran added. "We need to be surrounding ourselves with more people like [Carl Lentz]."
Gomez closed the interview by encouraging people to go to the church: "Absolutely, you guys should check out Hillsong anytime."
