Christian evangelist Franklin Graham reportedly praised Russian President Vladimir Putin for the country's “gay propaganda” law that makes it a crime to speak out about homosexuality in public.

Graham made his comments while in Russia at the end of October to the newspaper Moskoviskij Komsomolets, which were translated and subsequently posted by Right Wing Watch:

I have met [President Obama] on several occasions. He’s a very nice person. But he supports and promotes policies that contradict the teachings of God. As a Christian, I believe that abortion is murder; he supports it.

Homosexuality and same-sex marriage — those are sins against God, and the president is promoting them. I’m not against homosexuals as people. But God commanded that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

And I very much appreciate that President Putin is protecting Russian young people against homosexual propaganda -- if only to give them the opportunity to grow up and make a decision for themselves.

Again, homosexuals cannot have children; they can take other people’s children. I believe that President Obama -- and I’ll repeat: He’s a very nice person -- is leading America down the wrong road. He’s taking a stand against God.

Graham also reportedly praised Putin for Russia's bombings in Syria, saying, "I think that Russia’s involvement in this situation will bring about a political solution to the crisis."

Much of Russia's bombing campaign has killed anti-Syrian government rebels supported by the U.S., according to Reuters and NPR.

Russia's bombings in Syria were condemned by the U.S. and its NATO allies in October, reported The Wall Street Journal.

Graham praised the oppressive Syrian government, which has reportedly committed numerous war crimes for years, back in September.
