Pope’s Peace Doves Released, Viciously Attacked By Other Birds

Pope Francis called for peace in the Ukraine on Sunday as children released two doves in Rome’s St. Peter’s Square before a crowd of tens of thousands of Catholics.

As soon as the doves took flight from the open window of the Apostolic Palace, they were attacked, one by a black crow and the other by a large seagull. Pecked and clawed, white feathers fell to the ground.

As they fled their attackers, it was unclear what became of the birds, the Associated Press reported.

Protesters have recently died in the Ukraine capital of Kiev over deepening ties with Russia. The demonstrations are spreading as protesters seized government buildings outside Kiev Friday,
