A police officer who performed a traffic stop near Shreveport, Louisiana, decided that the situation called for a prayer rather than a speeding ticket.

Deputy Jackie Loveless pulled over Maxine Morgan as she drove through Bossier Parish with her husband, Jimmy Morgan, the Blaze reported.

“I was paying attention to my driving,” Morgan told KSLA. “But my mind wasn't there.”

That was because she and her husband were on their way to a memorial service for Morgan’s daughter, Daphne, who recently died.

A police officer saw a young black couple drive by and pulled them over. What he did next left them stunned:

“It's hard, very hard,” said Morgan. “It's the hardest thing in the world to have to give up one of your kids.”

When Loveless heard about the couple's situation, he reached in to the vehicle and asking Morgan and her husband to give him their hands.

“When the spirit of the Lord comes up to me to pray, I'm obedient to him and pray with that person,” Loveless said.

Morgan and her husband accepted Loveless’ offer.

“It just touched me so much,” recalled Morgan. “He took the time to pray with us.”

“In the middle of prayer, she grabbed my hand and held my hand real tight. And tears started coming from her, tears of greatness and tears of appreciation,” Loveless said.

Loveless allowed Morgan and her husband to pass without a ticket.

“Jackie understands we deal with a lot of people, but in a lot of times in the most stressful, critical event they've ever had to deal with in their lives,” Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington said. “He exemplifies, first off, a man, a Christian man.”

On such a difficult day for Morgan and her husband, Morgan said that Loveless had been their “miracle.”

“We needed something that day and he gave it to us,” Morgan added.
