LaBarbera to Dan Savage: End Your Hateful 'Santorum' Website

CHICAGO -- Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH), today urged homosexual activist and writer Dan Savage to take down his notorious and vulgar anti-Rick Santorum website -- Santorum.com -- which diabolically "redefines" the presidential candidate's last name as follows:

Santorum: The frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.

LaBarbera issued the following open appeal to Savage and the media:

Today, I appeal to homosexual activist Dan Savage: take down your anti-Rick Santorum hate-site, Santorum.com.

Admittedly, it seems ludicrous to appeal to man who would go to such hateful lengths to sabotage religious conservatives that he would intentionally try to give a Republican presidential candidate a cold (Gary Bauer, 2000), or use Google to demonize an opponent in such a despicable way. Nevertheless, I make the appeal because bullying is bullying, and it must stop.

We get it, Dan, you HATE Rick Santorum, and you want to punish him for comments he made about the Supreme Court's decision legalizing sodomy. But as a prolific writer and advocate, surely you have abundant opportunities to address Santorum's arguments civilly -- without resorting to cruel, twisted campaigns designed to destroy a man's name and reputation by associating it with perversion.

"Santorum.com" (like its malevolent cousin, "Spreading Santorum") is advanced cyber-bullying, pure and simple. You are a role model for "gay" youth, and your "It Gets Better" video campaign to help kids overcome bullying in their teen years has gained international attention. Yet bizarrely, with apparent ends-justifies-the-means rationale, you yourself have employed heinous bullying methods to malign Mr. Santorum -- tactics you would strongly condemn if used against a self-identified "gay" kid. [AFTAH opposes all bullying of youth without regard to special criteria; we disagree with the "It Gets Better" campaign because it seeks to normalize homosexuality and celebrate immoral LGBT identities.]

Is this the lesson you want to teach young people? That if they encounter a person who disagrees with homosexual behavior, it's OK to use the slimiest tactics imaginable to go after that person?

You and your homosexual partner have an adopted son. What did or will you tell him about Santorum.com? Have you no compassion for Rick Santorum's wife, children and extended family, who too must bear the brunt of your high-tech smear?

And to the media I ask this: please hold Dan Savage and his homosexual and liberal supporters accountable for this heinous and malicious web slander. Stop joking about it, and do not act as if Rick Santorum's "Google problem" just appeared out of nowhere. This is calculated character assassination engineered by a "gay" activist who, ironically, crusades against hate. Do not reward Savage with media appearances. In fact, treat him as you would, say, a deranged, far-right activist who had created "BarbaraBoxer[dot]com" and "redefined" her name in a similarly evil manner.

Have you seen Peter's site? He's probably the only blogger on earth I'd say this about ... be he makes the Westboro Baptist Church "God hates Fags," "Thank God for 911," "Thank God for dead soldiers" people look like girl scouts. Hell. Hitler didn't go as far linguistically or imaginatively when he dehumanized the Jewish people. And before you accuse me of Godwin, Peter actually is a man that has defended the rounding up and slaughter of gay people. He is a truly, truly, evil, soulless man ... and it's absolutely ludicrous for someone like him to be complaining about some relatively mild little joke directed towards a single man.

Sorry, Peter.....as a grandmother who loves and stands by LGBT folks, I won't scold Daniel at all.. In fact, I support his wicked and creative sense of humor....!

I find it interesting that a supporter of lies and propaganda against the LGBTQ community should resort to questioning the tactics or language used against that hatemongering liar, Santorum. Particularly in light of the fact that they, and people like them, have insisted that their lies are truth and that it is okay for them to make similar attacks on those that are not part of their narrow-minded stupidity, but not okay for others to do to them what they do on a daily basis.

When they stop making these attacks on the LGBTQ communities and the non-Christian communities, then they have a right to complain; until then, they are just suffering from a case of sour grapes over having a level playing field for once.

The insanity principle is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. The far right, the far left, vegans, creationists and other extremists believe in the insanity principle, religiously.

I don't know Peter, but when I looked at his picture in the article, I thought, hmm, a gay man asking a gay activist to take down the Santorum website. Nice move. I didn't read the whole article, but did read the comments. Then I find this guy is anti-gay! WOW.

"It's much better to not look like one and BE one, than to look like one and NOT be one". Old saying in SPanish pertaining to just about anything.

But it's ok for other anti-gay haters to have THEIR own "hateful" sites?? What a flippin' hypocrite you are, Miss Labarbera...just like your cronies.

Play their game, if you must do something about it I guess. It could be a boost to Santorums' primary campaign if you show primary voters the actions of homosexuals towards him, and tell them that homosexuals hate him because he's sure to not get onboard with the "homosexual agenda".

I don't follow anyone, because those that appear to be on the same path usually end up just getting in my way.

Amazing the audicity of LaBarbera to call anyone else hateful. That would have been like the racist sheriff Bull Connors accusing someone else of being racist. Should we go down memory lane and quote LaBarbers statements about gays? For example:

"I’m afraid America is not 'special' in that regard: every advance of homosexualist legislation strengthens a powerful perversion movement that ingeniously plays the victim while promoting acceptance of its pet sin in the name of 'civil rights.'"

See, gays can be called perverts whose supposed sin is so horrible that according to many on the Christian rightwing that it is going to bring forth the wrath of an invisible man up in the clouds. See, the religious rightwing time after time after time deride and condemn gay men but when gay men fight back than they are hatefuL? This writer has made a career out of hating hates. He has made a good chunk of chane by inreasing hatred against gays. He is a lowlife whose only contribution to the world is the increased hatred and fear that his miserable life has created. So, for him and Santorum (who compared gay sex to sex with animals) to whine is the height of arrogance and sliminess.

How about no? How's that work for you?

MethodSkeptic's picture

Yeah, I'm going to go with "no." Hey, Peter, protip for you. When you are president of an organization dedicated to going to hateful lengths to to sabotage GLBT Americans, to demonize people you disapprove of in despicable ways, you don't get to even talk about the high road.

We get it, Peter, you HATE gays, and you want to punish them for daring to be immoral in your eyes, and your organization tirelessly advances its cruel, twisted campaigns designed to destroy the names and reputations of an entire segment of our population.

Is this the lesson you want to teach young people? That if they encounter a person who disagrees with your religious mythology, it's OK to bully them with the slimiest tactics imaginable?

You and your spouse may have children yourself. What will you tell them about your hatred of gays? Have you no compassion for the women, children and family members who must bear the brunt of your bigotry?

And to the media I ask this. Please hold Peter Labarbara accountable for his heinous and malicious failure to file the tax paperwork for AFTAH. Do not act as if Peter's hate group lost its tax-exempt status out of nowhere. This is calculated hypocrisy engineered by an anti-gay activist who, without irony, crusades for hate. Treat him as the deranged, far-right activist he is.
