Stephen Colbert mocked bigoted Twitter users on his Monday night show for labeling Miss America winner Nina Davuluri a “Muslim terrorist.”
Davuluri is actually Indian, but many people on Twitter ignored that fact.
“Well they just picked a Muslim for Miss America. That must’ve made Obama happy. Maybe he had a vote,” said a Twitter user, reported Sky.com.
“I am literally soo mad right now a ARAB won. #MissAmerica,” wrote another bigot on Twitter, noted the Daily Mail.
Popular VideoThis young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.
Fox News Todd Starnes Tweeted that Miss Kansas lost "because she actually represented American values," which implied that Davuluri did not have those values.
On "The Colbert Report" last night (video below), the host explained: “705 people [on Twitter] saw a woman in a bikini and thought 'Muslim extremist.'”
Colbert added: “I, for one, could not be happier for her. And Twitter, as usual, could not be happy.”
According to Mediaite.com, Colbert called the Twitter insults “pure, xenophobic reactionary hate speech, which would be completely fine if she were an Arab, but she’s not.”
“Congratulations to Miss America, Nina Davuluri, Thanks to you, young Indian girls can now dream of advocating world peace, in a two piece,” stated Colbert.
