Evangelist Outraged: Law Mentions Kids' Gender Identity

| by Michael Allen

Evangelist Franklin Graham expressed outrage on June 8 over a new child services law in Ontario, Canada, that mentions children's "gender identity" and "gender expression."

Graham sounded the alarm on Facebook about the Supporting Children, Youth and Families Act (also known as Bill 89):

LISTEN UP AND WAKE UP CHRISTIANS OF CANADA! Ontario has just passed Bill 89 that says parents could be accused of discrimination and abuse if they don't go along with their kids’ "gender expression." Can you imagine having the government take your children away from you if the children decided they felt like switching their gender identity and you disagreed?

This law is not supported by science, Scripture, logic, research, experience, or common sense. This is totalitarian and oppressive! I hope Bible-believing churches and Christians across Canada will stand against this wicked law that has been pushed by progressives and the LGBT community.

This is another example of why who we vote for on the local, provincial, and national levels is so important! And the U.S. had better be on guard against laws like this being pushed right here in our own backyard.

Some scientific studies appear to confirm the existence of gender identity on a neurological level, Paste Magazine noted in March.

Irwin Elman, Ontario's Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth, said in a June 1 press release that the new law "represents a paradigm shift for the province with its commitment to the participation of children and youth in every decision that affects them, the creation of a child-centered system of service, and commitment to anti-racism and children's rights."

In the press releases, Elman linked to the text of the law, which makes mention of "sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression" several times. However, there's no mention of parents being accused of discrimination and abuse.

Jack Fonseca, senior political strategist for Campaign Life Coalition -- a pro-life organization in Canada -- told LifeSiteNews: "With the passage of Bill 89, we’ve entered an era of totalitarian power by the state, such as never witnessed before in Canada’s history. Make no mistake, Bill 89 is a grave threat to Christians and all people of faith who have children, or who hope to grow their family through adoption."

Tanya Granic Allen, president of Parents As First Educators, added: “Disappointed as I am with this result, I am not surprised. The Kathleen Wynne Liberals have for years been pursuing their anti-parent and anti-family agenda and Bill 89 is the latest installment."

The law adds "gender identity" and "gender expression" as factors that the government authorities would consider "in the best interests of the child."
