Controversial Christian historian David Barton hinted on August 13 that he may be helping the campaign of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

According to Right Wing Watch, Barton was taking questions during his presentation at the 2016 Arkansas TEA Party Alliance Convention when someone asked if he has been asked to counsel any of the presidential candidates (video below).

Barton, who recently spoke at an event where Trump also spoke, replied: "One definitely hasn't. What's her name? The [Trump campaign] definitely has reached out and we've helped do some things with them, putting some events together. We'll see how it goes. But they're looking for input, looking for help."

The audience applauded.

Right Wing Watch also notes that during the same meeting, Barton said he has a Ph.D.:

We defer to experts today who have no brains ... I'm at the point where I often, I've got a Ph.D., but I often ask now how many Ph.D.s does it take to make you stupid? Because we're at the point where we have lost common sense on so many aspects of things.

There is no mention of a Ph.D. on Barton's bio on his WallBuilders Live website:

David holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oral Roberts University and an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Pensacola Christian College. He has been a recipient of national and international awards including Who’s Who in Education and DAR’s highest award, the George Washington Honor Medal. His work in media and the educational medium have merited several Angel Awards, Telly Awards, and the Dove Foundation Seal of Approval.
