Sam Clovis, an Iowa Republican US Senate candidate, appeared on “The Steve Deace Show” last week to warn radio listeners about the U.S. government's alleged assault on churches, family and liberty.

“What we have today is soft tyranny on the part of this government,” claimed Clovis, noted (audio below).

"That government is out here destroying all of those things, taking away individual liberty, attacking the family, destroying our churches,” added Clovis. "...They try take all of that away from us, all of those things that are part of the American strength and American exceptionalism."

American exceptionalism is the claim by American Christians that the U.S. is an exceptional country in the eyes of God, however, none of this is mentioned in the Bible.

"A real conservative ought to be able to stand up and defend each one of those with passion, conviction and facts," stated Clovis.

Clovis was recently endorsed by Bob Vander Plaats, head of the Family Leader, a religious conservative organization, reports The Des Moines Register. Clovis was also endorsed by former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum, according to CNN.

Both Santorum and Vander Plaats oppose the freedom for gay people to marry.
