Texas School Principal Reads Daily Bible Verses To Students (Video)

| by Michael Allen

The principal at White Oak High School in Texas reportedly reads a daily Bible verse to students over the intercom during announcements.

An unidentified student purportedly sent several audio recordings to Hemant Mehta, who writes The Friendly Atheist blog.

Mehta identified the principal of the public school as Dan Noll.

In one reading (video below), Noll misquoted Luke 1:38 as stating, "Surrendering is the best demonstration in obedience and trust."

The verse actually says, "And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her."

Regardless of accuracy, public school-sponsored Bible readings were ruled unconstitutional in 1963 by the U.S. Supreme Court. Students can initiate Bible readings, but school employees cannot.

The Statesman notes that Noll has been the school principal since 1981.
