Sen. Ted Cruz, who announced this week that he is campaigning for the Republican nomination for president, recently told Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network that not enough Christians are in leadership positions in the public arena.

Cruz said, "Far too many Christians have ceded the public arena to people who aren’t believers," noted RightWingWatch.org (video below).

While there are no verses in the Bible telling Christians to run for political office, Cruz insisted that God placed Christians in positions of leadership just like Queen Esther in the Bible.

"We are to be watchmen on the wall, and I believe that there are pastors, there are leaders in the faith community all across this country who were placed in the positions of leadership that they are in today just like Esther for such a time as this," Cruz added.

Earlier this week, Cruz was caught on video (below) by the group United We Dream refusing to answer questions about his anti-immigration positions.

Fusion.net notes that Cruz opposes President Barack Obama's executive orders to allow immigrants brought to the U.S. by their parents — sometimes called DREAMers — to work and go to school. Cruz also opposes in-state college tuition rates for immigrants.
