Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) made a reference to Jesus Christ when he spoke on the House floor on Tuesday in support of the anti-abortion "Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act" (video below).

As part of his speech, Rep. Bridenstine slammed those who inflict pain on the unborn (with abortion) "in the name of choice and in the name of convenience.”

"If we willingly embrace cruelty in the name of choice, then can we say with integrity that we continue to secure the blessings of liberty not only for ourselves but for our posterity?” asked Rep. Bridenstine.

He then switched gears and offered hope to the same women he condemned earlier in the speech.

“The good news is that for those who have been affected by the pain of abortion, there is one who chose, who made a real choice, to endure pain on behalf of of all of us, and by his stripes we are healed,” said Rep. Bridenstine, who was apparently referencing Jesus Christ, notes

The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act would ban abortion in the U.S. after 20 weeks following fertilization (which would technically be 22), but stands no chance of becoming law as it would have to pass the Democrat-controlled Senate and President Obama.

According to the New York Times, Republican leaders know this, but are advancing the bill to "satisfy vocal elements of their base who have renewed a push for greater restrictions on reproductive rights, even if those issues harmed the party’s reputation with women in 2012."
