The B612 Foundation, which includes former astronauts Ed Lu, Tom Jones and Bill Anders, recently announced that far more asteroids have hit earth in the past few years than was first thought and a major city hasn’t been hit only because of luck.
“This data shows that asteroid impacts are not rare, but actually 3-10 times more common than we previously thought,” Lu wrote in a statement on the group's website. "The fact that none of these asteroid impacts shown in the video was detected in advance is proof that the only thing preventing a catastrophe from a 'city-killer' sized asteroid is blind luck."
The former astronauts want to develop an early-warning system, the Sentinel Infrared Space Telescope, which they say could become “the principal means by which nearly all asteroid discoveries will be made."
Televangelist Pat Robertson jumped on this news today to promote his book "The End of the Age" on "The 700 Club," notes RawStory.com (video below).

“I wrote a book.” said Robertson. “It deals with an asteroid hitting the Earth. I don’t see anything else that fulfills the prophetic words of Jesus Christ other than an asteroid strike.”
“[The earth is] big enough to draw some of them in," added Robertson. "And as somebody said, it’s ‘blind luck.’ Well, it’s the mercy of the Lord. But if that mercy ever got lifted, whew.”
Robertson gleefully claimed the Book of Revelation in the Bible supports his asteroid-destroying-earth claim.
“That’s what Jesus himself said!” stated Robertson. “So, hey, just get ready. Get right and stay right with the Lord.”
“It could be next week, it could be 1,000 years from now, but nevertheless, we want to be ready whenever the Lord says, ‘I’m wrapping it up, and it’s time to come home,’” said Robertson.
