Parodies of 'The War on Christmas' (Video)

| by Michael Allen

The so-called “War on Christmas” has become an annual event thanks to the Religious Right and Fox News, which look for and find conspiracies every Christmas.

This year's war has included Megyn Kelly being "persecuted" because she claimed Santa and Jesus are "white," Phil Robertson being "persecuted" for comparing gays to terrorists and claiming that black people were happy under repressive Jim Crow laws, and Bill O'Reilly who laments the use of "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas."

There was also a public school that provided free labor (school children) for the Rev. Franklin Graham's Operation Christmas Child, which sends shoe boxes of toys and Christian proselytizing pamphlets to kids overseas.

When the American Humanist Association objected to the free labor on government grounds, Fox News blared the headline "Megyn Takes on Secularist for Forcing Schools to Cancel Christmas Toy Drive."

In response to the supposed "War on Christmas," MediaMatters.org put together a montage of conservative outrage entitled "A War on Christmas Story" (video below).

On Mother Jones, Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and animator Mark Fiore created a humorous cartoon featuring a Jesus doll who rewrites the Bible with conservative Religious Right slogans of today (video below).
