Muslim Cleric Khalid Jadoon Accused of Framing Christian Girl with Down's Syndrome

Muslim cleric Khalid Jadoon was arrested for trying to frame 11-year-old Rimsha Masih, who is accused of burning pages of a Koran near Islamabad, Pakistan, reports the Daily Mail.

Authorities arrested Jadoon (pictured left, blindfolded) on suspicion of planting evidence to frame the Christian girl, who was arrested earlier this month under an anti-blasphemy law. Masih reportedly has Down's Syndrome.

Police official Munir Hussain Jafri said Jadoon was arrested after witnesses claimed he had torn pages from a Koran and planted them in Masih's bag.

The international community has protested Masih's imprisonment. In response, Pakistan's president Asif Ali Zardari has requested Pakistan's interior ministry present a report.

Under the anti-blasphemy law, anyone found guilty of speaking badly of Islam and the Prophet Mohammad faces the death penalty.

Christians, who make up four percent of Pakistan's population, say the law offers them no legal protection.
