Megachurch Pastor Claims Jesus Was God's Tithe (Video)

| by Michael Allen

Pastor Robert Morris, of the Gateway Church in Texas, gave a message in March on tithing in which he claimed that God had tithed Jesus.

Pastor Morris was apparently trying to encourage his flock to give money during this part of his sermon (video below).

Pastor Morris stated:

Listen to me carefully, Jesus is God's tithe. Because you see you give the tithe first. You give the tithe in faith. See, God didn't say, "Wait til your sheep has ten lambs and then give me one." He said, "Give me the first one when you don't have anymore, you just have the promise of more, you only have one." It takes faith to give the first. See, it's the principle of faith that releases the blessing on our finances.

However, the Bible never says Jesus was God's tithe or that people will be blessed financially if they tithe.

It's not clear exactly which Gateway Church this sermon was preached at as there are five in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

According to blogger and psychologist Warren Throckmorton, who flagged this video, Pastor Morris made a similar request back in January and suggested that people sell some possessions or downsize in order to tithe to the church.

The Gateway Church website states, "We’re all about people because God is all about people. One of the ways we express our love for Him is through our love for people, and we do that by helping each person who comes to Gateway grow in their relationship with the Lord."
