During his American Family Association radio show yesterday, host Bryan Fischer rewrote the Book of Haggai in the Bible to apply to the United States.
Haggai is filled with warnings to the Jewish people to rebuild the second Jerusalem temple. Haggai blames a recent drought on the people's refusal to rebuild the temple, which he sees as key to Jerusalem’s restoration.
Fischer replaced Israel with the United States and claimed the American economy is suffering because America has turned away from God, noted RightWingWatch.org.
He did not mention corporate outsourcing of American jobs to foreign countries or the risky bets taken by Wall Street with credit swaps.

Instead, Fischer claimed: "If you want a prosperous economy, you've got to have a vibrant spirituality" (video below).
However, the Bible never teaches that spiritual people will be rich.
"When you worship God, you are not just doing the right thing in terms of your relationship with God, you are doing your patriotic duty," Fischer said. "It is your patriotic duty to worship God in order that we may have a prosperous and flourishing economy."
