Georgia Republican Compares Gays to Pedophiles, Says Islam not a Religion
Jody Hice, who is running for the U.S. Congress in Georgia, made some bizarre claims in his 2012 book It's Now or Never: A Call to Reclaim America.
Hice, a talk show host and former pastor, is running against fellow Republican Michael Collins in a July 22 runoff for the GOP nomination.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Hice claimed in his book that Islam is not a religion and is therefore not protected by the First Amendment.
Hice also claimed that homosexual activists want to recruit and have sex with children, and compared homosexuality to bestiality and incest. He also believes that pro-choice advocates are worse than Hitler.
According to Mother Jones, Hice's book argues that "love" between gay people should not be the basis for marriage:
The concept of "love" is not the issue when it comes to marriage! People love all kinds of other people and things, but that does not grant permission for marriage. It is illegal to marry a child or a sibling. It is illegal to marry a pet, which many people love dearly.
Hice also quoted 1987 column by gay writer Michael Swift as proof that gays are after straight people's children. Hice notes that Swift stated in part, "We shall sodomize your sons, emblems of your feeble masculinity, of your shallow dreams and vulgar lies."
However, Hice either forgot or intentionally omitted the first sentence of Swift's essay that noted the article was satirical: "This essay is an outre, madness, a tragic, cruel fantasy, an eruption of inner rage, on how the oppressed desperately dream of being the oppressor."
Hice also warned against Muslim immigrants in his book:
Although terror is a real threat and must be taken seriously, the worst plan is the Muslim Brotherhood’s attempt to take over America! Don't think that it can't happen. Europe once considered itself impervious to Islam. Today we are being told that Europe will be 20 percent Islamic by mid century because they were ignorant to the problem until it was too late. The United States had better wake up to the fact that this threat is real!
Hice then concluded that Islam is not a real religion:
Although Islam has a religious component, it is much more than a simple religious ideology. It is a complete geo-political structure, and as such, does not deserve First Amendment protection.
Hice echoed the same claim during a speech to the Coweta County Tea Party Patriots on June 12, 2011, reported The Citizen.
“Most people think Islam is a religion, it’s not," stated Hice. "It’s a totalitarian way of life with a religious component, but it’s much larger. It’s a geo-political system that has governmental, financial, military, legal and religious components. And it’s a totalitarian system that encompasses every aspect of life and it should not be protected [under U.S. law]."
Hice failed to mention the millions of people killed in the name of Christianity and that many conservative Christians demand that U.S. law and politicians follow the Bible.
