Christian Pro-Life Group Opposes Potential Ebola Cures

| by Michael Allen

Despite claims from Republicans that the Obama administration is doing very little to nothing to stop the spread of Ebola, there are two experimental Ebola drugs that are being fast-tracked to development by the U.S. government.

NewLink Genetics has been awarded an $1 million grant by the U.S. Department of Defense to speed the testing of their Ebola vaccine, which has only been tested on monkeys and rats, but has been 100 percent effective, reports FoxNews.com.

The Wall Street Journal notes that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced last week that it will soon begin testing an Ebola vaccine, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), on humans.

However, a Christian pro-life group based in Largo, Fla., opposes the potential Ebola vaccines.

In a press release, Children of God for Life claims the vaccines are "using aborted fetal cell lines despite the fact that moral alternatives are reported as equally effective. Glaxo SmithKline (GSK) and NIAID are jointly developing their ChAd3 vector for delivering the Ebola virus gene using HEK-293 (human embryonic kidney) cells."

"Likewise, NewLink Genetics of Iowa used HEK-293 cells for their VSV-EBOV Ebola vaccine in Canada, while Johnson and Johnson/Crucell developed theirs using PER C6 cells, derived from retinal tissue of an 18 week gestation aborted baby," adds Children of God for Life.

Debi Vinnedge, Director of Children of God for Life, states in the press release, "There is absolutely no reason to use aborted fetal cell lines. At least two other Ebola vaccines in development by the University of Texas and GeoVax are using either Vero cells or chicken eggs. Likewise, there are therapeutic products such as ZMapp (LeafBio) and TKM-Ebola (Tekmira) that are using plant or Vero cells.”

“It is completely irresponsible of this Administration to put these problem vaccines on fast-track for approval and ignore the fact that a massive number of people may very well refuse them. Why not fast-track a product that everyone can use in good conscience?” stated Vinnedge.

In the past, the Children of God for Life has promoted the often debunked rumor that vaccines can cause autism:

Would it surprise you to know that prior to the introduction of the MMR vaccine that was produced using aborted fetal cell lines, the rate of autism in the United States was 1 in 10,000? Would it surprise you to learn that the dates coinciding with vaccine mandates state by state also coincide with a rise in autism? In 1995 another spike in autism rate surged. Why? The chickenpox vaccine, which uses aborted fetal cell lines was introduced to the US market that same year.
