Tony Perkins, president of the Christian-based Family Research Council (FRC), suggested on his radio show today that American POW Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl should be executed.
Speaking on his "Washington Watch" show, Perkins claimed that Bergdahl deserted his platoon and shared "information" with the Taliban, even though there is no proof to substantiate this claim, reports Buzzfeed.com (audio below).
Instead, Perkins quoted retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. William "Jerry" Boykin who recently told CNN that Bergdahl's (alleged) desertion is “punishable by death.”
“My point is that we have traded for a guy that is guilty of a crime that is actually punishable by death, we traded him for five of the worst Taliban leaders in Guantanamo,” claimed Boykin, who is the executive vice president of the FRC.

Perkins, who is a Christian, recalled how the subject of Bergdahl came up at a Sunday school class.
“As General Boykin said last week, you know, in wartime, deserters are shot,” said Perkins. “Especially those that go over to the other side and share information. As has been reported with Bergdahl.”
