Pastors Dave Swanson and Kevin Buehner (pictured) of "Generations Radio" have attacked various targets on their show from the state of Colorado to a Star Trek movie.
However, last week, they went one giant step further by attacking Pope Francis, notes RightWingWatch.org (audio below).
Their outrage stemmed from an Associated Press July 29 report in which Pope Francis told the news media on his plane: "If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis also said that gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten.
"The pope is not going to judge happy people," Swanson said.
"Will he judge sad people?" Buehner chimed in.
"I'm sorry, he's not going to judge gay people, I still don't read that word rightly," Swanson replied. "'Gay' used to mean happy, you know, blessed, happy, rejoicing, rejoicing in the Lord, not sort of lustful, licentious, focused on decadent sexuality ... Apparently, the pope is not going to judge happy, I mean, gay people. Pope Francis departed from his predecessor's remarks on gay people, telling reporters that he was not in a position to judge people based on their sexuality."
Buehner then added: "This is a low blow, but I gotta take it. You know the song, ‘Deck the halls with boughs of holly’? You know that line, ‘Don we now our gay apparel’? Have you seen the pope’s dress?”
