After Begging Listeners for Money, Focus on the Family Spends $52,000 on Rep. Todd Akin's Campaign

For months, the Christian organization Focus on the Family has been begging its listeners for donations to help the organization "keep marriages together" and "help families."

At the same time,  Citizenlink, the political arm of Focus on the Family, has reported to the FEC that it spent $52,413.67 on behalf of Rep. Todd Akin in Missouri's Senate race, reports MidwestDemocracy.com.

According to a statement on its website, Focus on the Family's mission is to "cooperate with the Holy Spirit in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with as many people as possible by nurturing and defending the God-ordained institution of the family and promoting biblical truths worldwide."

Earlier this year, Rep. Akin claimed that women who are the victims of "legitimate rape" can somehow shut down their bodies and prevent pregnancy.
