Christian Leader Blames Obama For Rise In STDs

| by Michael Allen

Tony Perkins, the head of the Christian-based Family Research Council, issued a press release Oct. 24 that blamed President Barack Obama for a rise in sexually transmitted diseases.

The news release states:

According to the most knowledgeable experts on the issue, the spread of STDs may be the biggest crisis that no one knows about. Thanks to the Obama approach, the mess of sexual liberalism is hitting home in a nation that's spent the last eight years -- not just encouraging, but funding -- messages of irresponsibility.

The FRC press release also cites the annual Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance Report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that came out Oct. 6, and said the "[t]otal combined cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis reported in 2015 reached the highest number ever."

The CDC news release noted there "were more than 1.5 million chlamydia cases reported (1,526,658), nearly 400,000 cases of gonorrhea (395,216), and nearly 24,000 cases of primary and secondary (P&S) syphilis (23,872) – the most infectious stages of the disease."

"We have reached a decisive moment for the nation," Dr. Jonathan Mermin, director of CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention, said in the CDC release. "STD rates are rising, and many of the country’s systems for preventing STDs have eroded. We must mobilize, rebuild and expand services – or the human and economic burden will continue to grow."

The CDC said that budgets cuts had hit more "than half of state and local STD programs," which forced "more than 20 health department STD clinic closures in one year alone. Fewer clinics mean reduced access to STD testing and treatment for those who need these services."

The FRC did not mention the budget cuts or the clinic closures, but rather blamed Obama:

Amazingly, 15-24 year-olds, some of whom graduated from Obama's school of sexual irresponsibility, accounted for more than 60 percent of chlamydia and half of all gonorrhea diagnoses.

California lapped the competition in overall cases of STDs, forcing leaders back to the drawing board after years of throwing comprehensive sex ed at people (which the government just admitted has been a billion-dollar failure at teen pregnancy prevention).

What do we expect from an administration where sex is the focus of almost every public policy? This is Obama's legacy!

A CDC press release from December 2015 noted that "fewer than half of high schools and only a fifth of middle schools teach all 16 topics recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as essential components of sexual health education," per a study by the National HIV Prevention Conference in Atlanta.
