Controversial Christian historian David Barton blamed gay people for rising health care costs on July 27 (video below).
Barton, who is also a Republican activist, boasted about his own good health while blaming homosexuals for being too sick on his "WallBuilders Live" radio show, notes Right Wing Watch:
Here's my health care problem I've got right now. The most expensive cost for health care in America per person is not seniors, it's not those who live to be 100 years old. The most expensive health care cost in America right now, by far, individually, is for homosexuals. They cost more in the system than any other, hands down.
You’ll find that all over insurance stuff, they all admit it. But see I'm not homosexual and I don't have those health problems. As a matter of fact, I don't smoke and I don't drink, so I don't have those health problems.

As a matter of fact, I really exercise a lot, I control my diet, I have very few health problems, but I'm having to pay for everybody else’s health problems. If my health insurance reflected my lifestyle, my health insurance would be really, really, really cheap. But when I’m having to pay for everybody's bad decisions, that's what socialism does. It's brings everything to the same level of mediocrity.
It's not clear what source Barton used for his assertions about gay people and health care costs, but in 2015 he told an audience at the Charis Bible College in Colorado that God would not allow a cure for AIDS because the disease was the "penalty" for homosexuality, noted Right Wing Watch:
The federal government, in the last several years, has spent tens of billions of dollars looking for a vaccine for AIDS, and I don't think they will ever find a vaccine for HIV/AIDS. And I say that based on a particular Bible verse.

If you look at what Romans 1:27 says, this is what the scripture says, it says, "Men leaving natural relations with a woman, lusted toward each other and did that which is wrong, receiving in their bodies the penalty due them."
Notice this, homosexuals receive in their bodies the penalty due them. The Bible says if you engage in homosexuality, your body will do things that will penalize you. So if you can have a vaccine for AIDS, then you’re keeping your body from penalizing you. I don't think they’ll ever find a vaccine for AIDS.
