David Barton, who identifies himself as a Christian historian, recently said adolescence is unbiblical according to verses in the Bible of teens doing extraordinary feats (video below).

Barton made his assertions on his "Foundations of Freedom" TV program with his "WallBuilders Live" radio co-host Rick Green, notes

"Adolescence is a term that never existed in the Bible because there was never a time when you were not to be a man or a woman. You weren't supposed to be stuck in childhood ...

"That's why David was just a teen, maybe a pre-teen, when he slew the lion and the bear and Goliath ... King Josiah was 8 years old when he started to reign. Samuel, they say he may have been somewhere between 4 and 12 when the Lord spoke to him and called him to his ministry there with Eli. Jesus was 12 years old when he was in the temple confounding the doctors of the law."

Barton added that it was "not that uncommon" for children of 12 to do what Jesus did:

"In the Hebrew culture, when you were 13 years old, you were a man. You went from being a boy to being a man. When you turned 13, no longer were your parents responsible for you because you're a man, you answer for your own decisions, you make your own decisions."

Another word not mentioned in the Bible is "pedophilia." The Book of Numbers 31:17-18 states: "Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."

According to, Barton went on to claim the original 19th century Pony Express mail delivery service employed young orphans who rode horses hundreds of miles a day. That notion was reportedly debunked in 2005.

Joseph Nardone, national executive director and historian of the Pony Express Trail Association, researched an alleged California ad that has been repeated for years: "Wanted. Young, skinny, wiry fellows. Not over 18. Must be expert riders. Willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred."

Nardone told The Associated Press that it was a hoax from no earlier than 1902, and added that the Pony Express carried mail between Missouri and California from 1860 until late 1861.
