Atheist Shoemaker Now Targetting Godless Babies

| by Sarah Fruchtnicht

An atheist shoe company in Berlin launched a Kickstarter Campaign to begin a project for handmade baby shoes with an atheist slant.

Atheist Shoes has sold adult footwear for the last year, but now they want to branch off into “super-comfy, handmade leather shoes for babies — dedicated to the only supreme beings they believe in; Mummies, Daddies and Boobies.”

“We’re pretty sure all babies are born atheists and, rather than commit them to some religion before they’re old enough to have a say (let alone control their pooping functions) we’d rather celebrate their undoubted belief in Mummy and Daddy,” the company writes on its Kickstarter page.

Their baby shoes, just like their adult shoes, will have a black dot on them — the company’s “signature black hole of nothingness.”

The bottom of the baby shoes read: “I believe in Mummy,” “I believe in Daddy,” and “I believed in Booby.”

The group hopes to raise £7,000, about $9,636, and already has more than half the amount needed to begin the project.

To reward Kickstarter backers, contributors who pledge £45 or $72 USD, get a pair of baby shoes. Those who pledge £170 or $274 or more get free pairs of adult shoes and baby shoes.

Those who pledge only £1, $1.61, get nothing: “For those who believe in nothing, we give you nothing! Back in stock, due to popular demand, our new-and-improved nothing 2.0 is 33% more nothing than before, with a deeper absence of something and just the perfect shade of no colour [sic] whatsoever. Organic, fairtrade and handmade, with loving care, absolutely nowhere. Shipping included.”
