Reese Witherspoon is in talks to star in a biopic about singer Peggy Lee, according to reports.
Witherspoon, who secured the rights to Lee’s story from the late singer’s estate, will produce the as-yet-untitled film, while Nora Ephron (Julie & Julia, Sleepless in Seattle) a “longtime fan of Lee’s,” will write and direct.
Fox 2000 and Witherspoon’s reps are currently negotiating a deal for her to take on the lead role.
Like Walk the Line (for which Witherspoon won an Academy Award), the Lee biopic will explore the highs and lows of her career, which spanned nearly seven decades, as a singer, songwriter, composer and actress.
This could actually be good news. Witherspoon did a tidy job portraying singer June Carter in Walk the Line.
