Ratings Down for Fox, Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck

Ratings for Fox News are in the doldrums, down 21% in primetime so far this year. But don't cry for the right-leaning network -- it's been number one on cable for nine years now, and it still has the top 12 shows.

According to a report from Business Insider, Bill O'Reilly remains in the top spot, but he lost 14% of his audience from the same three-month period last year. Sean Hannity places second, down 19%. Bret Baier (whoever he is) is third, beating out Glenn Beck, who has lost a whopping 30% of his audience.

CNN and MSNBC have been the beneficiaries of Fox's decline. CNN is up by 28%, led by Anderson Cooper's 18% rise, and MSNBC saw a 9% ratings growth. Its star Rachel Maddow has 16% more viewers.

Business Insider speculates on the possible reason:

This time period last year was dominated by the health care debate and for much of that period Fox operated as an extension of the opposition. Now that the nation's focus is international it's harder to figure out an angle where Obama is bad and...nuclear meltdowns and Qadaffi are good.

Another explanation could be that CNN and MSNBC have been doing so poorly in recent years that there was no place else to go but up.

Rachel Maddow up 16%?? so that means she now has maybe a few hundred viewers! Who really watches her.. it's like Gelnn Beck left!

There's a reason Fox is number one for all these years.. great looking women in revealing dresses. Their news is no more accurate or fair and balanced than CNN or MSNBC.

I remember when news channels were our pride, a family moment and something you could rely on. They competed for quality and accuracy. That was yesterday.

Today we have to pick a side, or have enough common sense to distinguish between sensationalism, a political slant and garbage.

On a positive note, it has taught us to be more active, and vocal on what we don't like...for this I thank all the bozos on fox.

Hey man, I'm so fed up with Beck and his craziness that I 'invented" a "talk show" of my own. Just search You Tube for "liberal nut job talk show Matthew Weissman" and you should get the latest one, which is usually the best since I'm a rookie at this. sometimes I'ts actually kind of funny!

All of them.
No one should watch any of them (these personality's)
I wish they had to put a disclaimer after each commercial break they all tend to be one sided.
Fox needs to do an Morning and Evening News Program to get me to watch.
With the political thing getting ready to ramp up it's going to get worse. The party cheerleaders will go to just the news that makes theirs look better or the other guy worse.
The Tea Party is full of unbelievably crazy people so the network that covers them will come out with more viewers.

It's my fault that Fox ratings are down. I've been watching Ed on MSNBC. Mainly because I can't believe he's serious. Most of his views are outrageous,,really one-sided,,and his style reminds me of the type of discussions I had with friends when I was in grade school. As long as MSNBC will fill an hour with a talk show host like Ed, FOX has no worries.
