Rare Zedonk -- Zebra/Donkey Mix -- Born in Georgia

| by Mark Berman Opposing Views

What do you get when you cross a zebra with a donkey? It's no joke -- you get a zedonk. And a rare one was born last week at an animal preserve in Georgia.

As you can see in the photo, the animal has the physical characteristics of both of her parents -- note the zebra stripes on her legs.

But inside, she is all zebra. C.W. Wathen, the founder and general manager of the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve, said the foal has a zebra's instincts -- sitting up instead of lying on her side, as if she's staying alert for predators.

It is not the usual practice for zebras and donkeys to get intimate. But things happen, and every now and then a zedonk is born.
