The Oakland Raiders have been a pretty horrific team since they made the Super Bowl in 2002. They were bad when Tom Cable took over the team, and they continued to be poor during his tenure. However, he did get things turned around a bit this year, getting the team to 8-8.
But, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that’s still not enough for the Raiders to keep him.
“Filed to ESPN: Raiders informed Tom Cable they will not pick up the option in his contract. He no longer is the Raiders head coach,” he tweets.
The Raiders could have kept Cable for $2.5 million in 2011, so it’s not like they dropped him because of his exorbitant salary. The truth is that the process of getting rid of Cable had more to do with the San Francisco 49ers sudden interest in Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, who was finally able to squeeze some life out of this group.
