Pope Benedict Declares Plans to Visit Middle East

| by DeepDiveAdmin

Looking to continue to build religious unity between Catholics and other faiths, particularly after his controversial attempt to reinstate a bishop who denied the Holocaust, Pope Benedict XVI announced today that he is going ahead with plans to visit the Holy Land in mid-May. While there he says he plans to pray for, "''the precious gift of unity and peace for the Middle East and all of humanity.''

The trip will mark the first papal visit to the Middle East since 2000.
