An Arizona woman who got in to an argument with her husband when she found out he had not voted in the 2012 Presidential election pleaded guilty Tuesday to running him over with an SUV.

Holly Nicole Solomon, 31, pleaded guilty of two counts of aggravated assault in the incident, which took place in a parking lot on November 10, 2012. It left her husband Daniel with a fractured pelvis. In comments to investigators, he explained that his wife feared Barack Obama’s victory would bring hardship to their family.

Solomon’s plea reduces the risk of her being given the maximum prison sentence of 15 years for the offenses. She had originally pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

Solomon said that she was upset with the reelection of President Obama. She also said that when the argument with her husband got out of hand, she wanted to scare him by driving the vehicle in his direction and stopping it close by. Instead, she claims she accidentally stepped on the accelerator and hit him.

Police said that Solomon chased her husband around the parking lot with the car, circling him while he hid behind a light pole. When he tried to make an escape and run towards the road, Solomon hit him with the vehicle, leaving him trapped between the SUV and a curb.

According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, part of the plea deal agreed to by Solomon states that she will serve a three-and-a-half-year prison term, before being released on probation.

Maricopa County Superior Court judge Joseph Kreamer is scheduled to sentence Solomon on May 21.
