Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was forced to duck during a presentation on Thursday when a protestor threw a shoe at her head.
Clinton was delivering a speech about recycling for Scrap Recycling Industries in Las Vegas. It was one of several paid speeches Clinton has given industry groups this year.
“My goodness, I didn’t know that solid waste management was so controversial,” Clinton quipped. “Good thing she didn’t play softball like I did.”
The woman, whose name was not released, was wearing both of her own shoes as she was escorted off the property, which means that she intentionally brought a third shoe to throw. A spokesperson for Scrap Recycling Industries noted that she was not a member of the institute and should not have been let inside.
The woman was taken into custody and will face criminal charges, according to a Secret Service supervisory agent.
The incident was reminiscent of a 2008 shoe-throwing incident, when former President George W. Bush was targeted.
