Outsized Role In Trump Team For Daughter And Son-In-Law

| by Oren Peleg

Days after winning the election, President-elect Donald Trump made a surprise move by firing ally New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie from his transition team. It was soon learned that the decision originated not with a campaign team member, political strategist, or even a politician at all, but with Jared Kushner -- Trump's son-in-law.

Ivanka Trump, the president-elect’s eldest daughter, and her husband, Jared Kushner, have revealed themselves to be close confidants and influencers of their father, CNN reports.

During an interview with Fox News on Dec. 11, Donald suggested that he is pursuing the idea of including Jared and Ivanka in his administration.

“We’re working that out right now,” he added, reports The Huffington Post. He called Ivanka and Jared “very talented people,” and said: “I would love to be able to have them involved. I think we’ll have to see how the laws read.”

“If you look at Ivanka, she’s so strong, as you know, to the women’s issue and child care, and so many things, she’d be so good,” Donald continued. “Nobody can do better than her. I’d just have to see whether or not we can do that. She’d like to do that. … I’d love to have Jared helping us on deals with other nations and see if we can do peace in the Middle East and other things.”

According to The New York Times, Kushner was already exploring possible legal paths into his father-in-law’s administration.

As Trump surrogate Newt Gingrich pointed out: “I think they would have to get a waiver to the anti-nepotism law,” reports Politico. “That might be a little tricky, although I think if they worked at it, they could do it.”

According to The Huffington Post, in a November interview with “60 Minutes,” Ivanka was more reserved about her political ambitions. “I’m going to be a daughter,” Ivanka said, adding that she is “passionate about certain issues” that she will continue to “fight for.”
