President Donald Trump visited the Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day and caught flak online for singing the national anthem (video below).

During the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner," Trump was spotting singing the words while Vice President Mike Pence and others on the stage remained silent. Some online commenters found Trump's actions to be disrespectful and self-serving, according to tweets found by Mediaite.

"Our sick demented president Donald Trump just sang and danced to the National Anthem at our most solemn event," wrote one user on Twitter.

Another user posted video of the event with the caption: "This is Arlington. Not a rally. Just now."

"It is like whenever the national anthem is playing, Trump hears 'happy birthday to me,'" the user also added in a later tweet.

Trump delivered a speech at the National Cemetery after laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, giving thanks to the men and women in the armed forces who had given the ultimate sacrifice for their country and paying his respects to the family members they had left behind, according to CNN.

"We only hope that every day we can prove worthy, not only of their sacrifice and service, but of the sacrifice made by the families and loved ones they left behind," Trump said in his speech. He also told the Gold Star families in attendance that "God is with you, and your loved ones are with Him."

"I believe that God has a special place in heaven for those who laid down their lives so that others may live free."

But many Twitter users saw Trump's singing of the national anthem to be disrespectful and short-sighted.

"Trump belted the National Anthem at Arlington like he was singing a Cher tune in the shower," wrote another user. Other users commented that Trump sang the anthem "as if he were at a ballgame," and seemed to claim that Trump did not recognize the importance of the day.

"As trump bops his way during a solemn ceremony, singing and making an idiot out of himself, I am embarrassed for this country," wrote another. "Beyond sad."

Twitter users also noticed that Trump stopped singing towards the end of the anthem, with many of them assuming he had forgotten the words, according to WPIX.

During the anthem, Trump was flanked by Defense Secretary James Mattis, and Trump offered condolences to Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, whose son died fighting in Afghanistan, according to CNN. Neither Mattis or Kelly were shown singing.
