At the GOP debate on Wednesday night, Donald Trump told former Florida Governor Jeb Bush that his brother, former President George W. Bush, was to blame for the election of Barack Obama (video below).

“Because it was such a disaster, the last three months, that Abraham Lincoln couldn’t have been elected,” Trump said, referring to George W. Bush’s final days in office.

Prior to the remark, Trump made it known that he never supported the war in Iraq even as a hawkish person.

“It’s about judgment,” Trump said. “I didn’t want to go into Iraq and I fought it … What I said is, ‘You’re going to destabilize the Middle East,’ and that’s what happened.”

Bush defended his brother's decision to send troops into Iraq during the debate, as he has in the past, reports The Hill.

“One thing about my brother, he kept us safe,” Bush said.

Bush’s comment received cheers and applause from the crowd.

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky also commented on the Iraq war following the Trump-Bush exchange.

“I’ve made my career as an opponent of the Iraq War,” Paul said.

Former neurosurgeon Ben Carson also chimed in on his stance on the Iraq War, stating that he had “suggested to President Bush that we not go to war” in 2003.

Trump responded to Carson by raising his hand up for a high-five that resulted in an awkward handshake between the two men.

CNN calls their high-five/handshake one of the most awkward moments of the GOP debate.
