Inside Trump's Praise-Filled Cabinet Meeting

| by Lauren Briggs

President Donald Trump's first full Cabinet meeting is causing quite a stir after the normally all-business, stark affair featured his administration enthusiastically praising him.

The televised portion of the June 12 meeting began with Trump discussing his achievements so far as president and introducing newly-approved members of his Cabinet, notes CNN.

"Never has there been a president, with few exceptions -- [in the] case of FDR, he had a major depression to handle -- who has passed more legislation and who has done more things than what we've done," Trump said during the meeting, according to The Hill.

After the president's remarks, the Cabinet went around the table and each gave a brief statement, reports The Huffington Post. Most offered high praise to the president.

"It's the greatest privilege of my life to serve as vice president to a president who is keeping his word to the American people, and assembling a team that's bringing real change, real prosperity, real strength back to our nation," said Vice President Mike Pence, according to The Post.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said that it was a "new day" at the U.N., thanks to Trump, while Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said that "hundreds and hundreds of people were so thrilled" to see the president visit the Department of Transportation during Infrastructure Week.

"On behalf of the entire senior staff around you, Mr. President, we thank you for the opportunity and the blessing that you've given us to serve your agenda and the American people," White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said, according to The Hill. "And we're continuing to work very hard every day to accomplish those goals."

A number of other officials continued the trend, which was widely mocked by a number of reporters, including CNN's editor-at large, Chris Cillizza, who called it "the weirdest cabinet meeting ever" and compared it to a scene from Trump's old TV show, "The Apprentice."

This young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true:

"A group of supplicants all desperately trying to hold on to their spots on the show by effusively praising Trump -- each one trying to take it a step further than the last," Cillizza wrote. "And Trump in the middle of it all, totally and completely pleased with himself."

Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York posted a parody video on Twitter, in which his aides compliment him on his tone and his hair and, like Priebus, thank him for the "blessing" to carry out his agenda.

"GREAT meeting today with the best staff in the history of the world!!!" Schumer captioned the viral video.

The majority of people have reacted with humor and criticism, though a few attributed the reactions to the media's negative spin on a meeting filled with positivity.

Charlie Spiering, a Breitbart writer, tweeted that it was a "very effective way to show Americans what [Trump's] team is doing to make their country better," while another Twitter user contrasted the coverage with "the media fawning [sickeningly] over [former President Barack] Obama!"
