Supporters of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump booed protesters who silently held up small copies of the U.S. Constitution during a rally in Portland, Maine, on Aug. 4 (video below).

The demonstrators were paying tribute to Khizr Khan, the Muslim father of a fallen soldier who held up his copy of the Constitution during his speech at the Democratic National Convention and told Trump to read it, reports RawStory.com.

Trump was silent during the booing which includes chants of "USA! USA! USA!"

After, or while, the protesters were escorted out by security, Trump said:

"A Trump rally is the safest place in our country to be, believe me, believe me, right? The safest. But if we keep going the way it is our whole country is becoming different. They're shooting our police at record levels. You saw where I said in my speech, 50 percent higher, and then they went out and they looked."

Trump stopped his speech as more protesters, who were also holding copies of the Constitution, were escorted out while supporters booed.

"Isn't that amazing?" Trump added. "Isn't that amazing? Sort of rude."

On the other side of the political aisle, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was asked by a reporter in Las Vegas on Aug 4: "When Donald Trump says the reason that he makes so many of his products overseas is because of the market, because it’s just too expensive to do it here right now and that he would change that market as president."

Clinton fired back:

"When you run for president, you need to be judged by what you have done and I think the evidence is pretty clear. Everything he’s made, he’s made somewhere else. He’s not put Americans to work. He’s imported foreign workers instead of hiring Americans at his country clubs and his resorts. He has cheated contractors. I take that personally. My father was a small businessman and he got contracts.

"And if he'd showed up after having done all the work, printing the fabrics for the draperies that were going to be made and told, as Trump told countless small businesses, 'I'm not going to pay you,' I don't know what would have happened to our family. But I’ve met people who were destroyed by Donald Trump. So take a look at what he’s done, not what he says."
