New Hampshire state Rep. Al Baldasaro, who serves as an advisor to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, is being investigated by the Secret Service for saying that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton should be "shot for treason" (video below).

Baldasaro made his comments during a radio interview on the "Jeff Kushner Show" on July 19, notes BuzzFeed News:

Hillary Clinton to me is the Jane Fonda of the Vietnam. She is a disgrace for the lies that she told those mothers about their children that got killed over there in Benghazi. She dropped the ball on over 400 emails requesting back up security.

Something’s wrong there. I wish they'd made the documents public on why Anderson was there, Ambassador Anderson. Because in my mind I want to think were they moving guns; were they doing something there?

Why did they, how did they know he was even there? This whole thing disgusts me. Hillary Clinton should be put in a firing line and shot for treason.

ABC News reports that Secret Service spokesman Robert Hogback stated that the government agency is "aware of this matter and will conduct the appropriate investigation."

The Boston Globe asked Baldasaro if he stood by his call for Clinton's execution, and he said, "Without a doubt."

"When you take classified information on a server that deals with where our State Department, Special Forces, CIA, whatever [are] in other countries, that’s a death sentence for those people if that information gets in the hands of other countries or the terrorists," Baldasaro added. "As far as I’m concerned, that’s information for the enemy. In the military, shot, firing squad. So I stand by what I said."

The GOP-controlled House Select Committee on Benghazi found that Clinton wasn't personally responsible for the security calls on Benghazi.

Baldasaro defended his death call as part of the First Amendment: "Freedom of speech is a beautiful thing. I spoke my mind about how I feel. She’s not above the law. Any other State Department employee or veteran did the same thing, they’d be in jail."

In response to the execution comment, Clinton spokeswoman Jen Palmieri said: "Donald Trump's overtaking of the Republican party – and his constant escalation of outrageous rhetoric – is in danger of mainstreaming the kind of hatred that has long been relegated to the fringes of American politics where it belongs. This week at the Republican convention, we've seen the clearest embodiment yet of this dangerous phenomenon."

Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks commented to WBIN: "We’re incredibly grateful for [Baldasaro's] support, but we don’t agree with his comments."
