Kellyanne Conway, the new campaign manager for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, said on Aug. 17 that the Trump campaign would "never have the money" of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign (video below).

The Hill noted in June that Trump said in a statement: "If need be, there could be unlimited 'cash on hand' as I would put up my own money, as I have already done through the primaries, spending over $50 million. Our campaign is leaner and more efficient, like our government should be."

But Conway told Fox News: "We’ll never have the money and we’ll have have the manpower that Hillary Clinton has in Brooklyn, but we don’t need it because quality candidates matter and people want a dynamic, honest messenger in their presidential candidates that they can trust."

Mediaite, which flagged the video, notes that Trump tweeted in May: "Good news is that my campaign has perhaps more cash than any campaign in the history of politics- b/c I stand 100% behind everything we do."

LawNewz noted in June that Trump's May tweet did not match up with his fillings with the Federal Election Commission that showed the Republican's campaign had about $1.3 million of cash on hand, while Clinton's had $24 million.

The news site added that Trump was loaning his campaign an average of $4.3 million per month, but that was cut down $2.2 million in May, possibly because he had clinched the GOP nomination.

Before May, the Trump campaign was spending an average of $5.6 million each month, and was receiving $1.4 million in donations, creating the deficit that Trump filled with his loans.

If Trump were to decide to opt for public funding of his campaign, he could instantly infuse it with $96.1 million, but his campaign would be limited to using those funds.
