Texas Gov. Orders Texas State Guard To Monitor U.S. Military’s Jade Helm Training

Republican Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has ordered the Texas State Guard to monitor the U.S. military's Operation Jade Helm 15 exercises in Bastrop County, Texas, between July 15 and September 15.

Abbott tweeted today, "I've ordered the Texas State Guard to monitor Jade Helm 15 to safeguard Texans' constitutional rights, private property & civil liberties."

However, there is no proven threat to "constitutional rights, private property & civil liberties."

Alex Jones' conspiracy website Infowars.com and similar sites have pushed possible  scenarios such as a fictional military takeover of the U.S.

That fantasy has taken hold to such a degree that Lt. Col. Mark Lastoria held a meeting at the Bastrop County Commission on Monday (video below).

According to RawStory.com, Lt. Col. Lastoria reassured paranoid residents that the U.S. military was not collecting intelligence, confiscating property or planning any psychological ops.

Radio station KUT reports that Abbott sent a letter to Major General Gerald “Jake” Betty, head of the Texas State Guard, to monitor the U.S. military exercises and report to Abbott's office.

According to the Statesman, Abbott 's letter said that the U.S. Special Operations Command, which is in charge of the Jade Helm training, "has assured Texas that each location selected for the training exercises will pose no risk to residents or property and that they will coordinate with local residents via verbal and written communication."

However, because of the Supremacy Clause in the U.S. Constitution, the U.S. government's authority trumps state authority, so there is nothing that Abbott or the Texas State Guard can do about the U.S. military training exercises.
