Tea Party Rep. Scott Desjarlais told an 11-year-old girl at a town hall meeting on Thursday that her undocumented father should be deported.

Josie Molina explained at the Rutherford County Tea Party’s “Conservative Conversation and Cocktails” meeting that she has papers, but her father does not.

In a shaky voice, the girl asked Desjarlais, “What can I do so he can stay with me?”

“We have laws, and we need to follow those laws and ya know, that’s where we’re at,” he responded.

Tea Party supporters clapped and cheered.

About 200 people attended the meeting, according to Buzz Feed.

Desjarlais is up for reelection in 2014. On his website, he states his stance on immigration.

“Illegal immigration burdens taxpayers, compromises national security, increases criminal activity, and erodes the significance of being an American citizen,” the website says. “We must secure our border and devote resources to enforcing current immigration law, which includes partnering with state and local law enforcement organizations.”
