Rep. Louie Gohmert recently told a Tea Party audience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. that the poorest Americans should have to pay federal income tax, even if the only money they get is from the US government.
According to RightWingWatch.org, Rep. Gohmert wants a new "flat tax" that would require poor people to return some of the government aid they receive (video below).
However, Rep. Gohmert made no mention of corporations that do not pay taxes because of tax loopholes, subsidies and special tax breaks.
CBS News reported that "two-thirds of U.S. corporations paid no federal income taxes between 1998 and 2005."

According to USA Today, US corporations that did not pay taxes last year include: Verizon, MetLife and News Corp. (owner of Fox News).
However, Rep. Gohmert believes that too many poor people don't have any “skin in the game.”
“What if you’re so poor that the only money you have is what the government gives you? I wondered, isn’t that wasting money, you give it and you take it back?” stated. Rep. Gohmert. “No that gives you an investment in the country and we need that.”
