According to Forbes, former President George W. Bush made a rare public appearance on Tuesday morning, speaking at his Institute Conference on Taxes and Economic Growth in New York City.

Bush gave his continued support for lower taxes before delivering a surprising statement: “I wish they weren’t called the ‘Bush tax cuts. If they’re called some other body’s tax cuts, they’re probably less likely to be raised.”

The Bush tax cuts are scheduled to expire after this year after being enacted in 2001.
